Torchwood

I was going to write some kind of review for Torchwood: Children of Earth today, but every time I sit down to write it I get chills thinking about the cabinet meeting in Day Four and the murder/suicide in Day Five. Some amazing writing and absolutely fantastic acting combined to produce two of the best scenes I've ever seen on TV, finally delivering on the promise that Torchwood was supposed to be a darker take on Doctor Who universe. The first two series were mostly sex and swearing, but Children of Earth was genuinely horrifying. You wouldn't get the 456 in Doctor Who. You wouldn't get to see the government deciding how to choose which 10% of the country's children would be sacrificed. You wouldn't get to see a child hooked up to an alien, fully aware of what was happening but completely helpless to act. You certainly wouldn't see a civil servant pushed to the breaking point choose to shoot his wife and children - and then himself - rather than have his children suffer the same fate.

Peter Capaldi deserves an award for the performance he put in. Outstanding.
